I am very fortunate to be able to hang out with three of the coolest nerds one could meet ever every Tuesday evening. It is exactly what the doctor orders for healthy living. Sometimes we watch a good movie and bask in the glory of it, other times we watch bad movies and tear them apart just for the shear joy of it. We video game, we board game, we philosophize, we shoot the shit. Ultimately we rarely have a set agenda; other than to have fun.
This Tuesday marks the second round of torture that is Pandemic Legacy. The game is just brilliant and horrifying in how fast it can turn against you. The deck seems hell bent on killing the whole populace that is the Earth. We have been fortunate enough to survive and beat the Objectives for the months of January and February. Next week we shall try our hand at March. The interesting thing about the game is the fact that the better you do the less funding you get. The degree of difficulty changes as it sees how well or abysmally you handle the problem at hand. Luckily for me we have a damn good team to hopefully eradicate these viruses. I am currently playing the Scientist (Dr. Hotittes) which allows me to cure the disease with 4 cards rather than the normal 5. It is very satisfying when I get to hand those cards over, wipe my brow, and try to take down the next disease.
I can definitely say that it is frightening to know that mistakes made in this game tend to be permanent. You change the board, the characters and more as you go along. It's certainly a unique experience to see a board game change so much because of your actions. I highly recommend it and trying to maintain the same players throughout all sessions. Now go out there and kick some diseases asses!!
