Every Sunday my bestie goes bowling with a group of his fellow drag queens in the Tini Girls (http://cotinigirls.com/) his husband, my other bestie sometimes crashes the party. I joined them this last Sunday for an evening of dancing. I wasn't feeling the bowling part but the venue certainly plays the music loud enough, especially in the bar area, for me to dance my worries away.
I abstained from alcohol and any carbs but that did not damper my boogie in any way shape or form. It always a real privilege getting to be a part of these shenanigans. Hanging out with the ridiculously fabulous is like getting invited into the coolest club that you thought was meant for only the elite, turns out I am a part of the elite for I have arrived! *Fun Fact: queens outside of drag are still fierce as fuck!*
The joy of having music to dance to is that I can entirely ignore that gnawing feeling of awkwardness when in a group. When dancing I can be a part of my own world while still be close enough that I can contribute in small ways. Not to mention my dancing is basically poetry in motion. You know the kind with awkward pauses, random separations, nonsensical meanings, but an overall sense of happiness. ;)
All I can say is that if you ever get a chance to attend a drag show, DO! You will have the time of your life and see some really inspired numbers and heels so high you get a nose bleed just looking at them. The Tini Girls are in a class all by themselves killing it with their supreme awesomeness. I highly recommend attending all of their very unique shows like the dedicated groupies they deserve! Just make sure to bring money to tip these ladies. One of them alone is wearing more makeup than I will probably wear in my lifetime, and they usually have at least three changes in the evening. Drag is not a cheap and neither are these ladies.
