If you haven't seen the new show on SyFy called The Magicians I highly recommend it. I watched the first two episodes and it was thoroughly entertaining. It has the potential to just turn into one of those shows where most of the characters are busy throwing woe is me fits, or they could go down the other path and just continue to kill it and make some sick magic!!
You, Me and the Apocalypse definitely started strong. I have seen the first episode and I'm pretty intrigued to find out more about this hacking group called Deus Ex Machina, and long lost lover who left him for a twin he didn't know he had...I know what you are thinking, soap opera, well it's a miniseries so it can't get too ridiculous, maybe.
It has been forever, I mean FOREVER, since I have had to use Excel. I applied for three positions within my library (of which I currently know that two have chosen other applicants, and I'm doing my damnedest to not be bitter). One of them wanted me to take some Office assessments, Excel, Word, and Outlook. The last two are super easy, I practically use them every day. Excel I was super worried about so I spent all of Tuesday evening finishing a Lynda.com (which is free through Arapahoe Libraries to use) course on Excel. Turns out I really need to spend some time beefing up my Excel skills. I have some really boring learning to be had in my future. I love learning skills that I will be using, just studying to know something you don't even use, seems pretty damned pointless.
We had game night on 2/3, and it went smashingly. We were super worried since we were beginning our fight with the black dragon clan. Napistu (my clay golem) bit the dust but Y'Mir (our tiny, angry, dragonborn, barbarian) was able to get my Ruby so that I can bring him back to life. One of our players had just had surgery earlier that day and was being a huge trooper by having us over at his place to game. It actually worked out really well since he has a massive dining room table. All in all it was a good game night that ended with me getting cuddles, so any day that ends in cuddles is a great day.
Now is the season for stupid Valentine's Hallmark movies...have I mentioned I have a huge weakness for all things sappy? What can I say I love things with happy endings. There has been an exceptionally small amount of things that I have gotten excited and hopeful for that have ever actually turned out well. In these movies or books you get to see them come back from the "no's" and find their happiness. That's powerful stuff to me, it's a sliver of good that tries to remind me that being hopeful isn't as dumb or heartbreaking as it feels. I have watched All Things Valentine, Love's Complicated, and Valentine's Day so far with my Momma and my Daddy. Luckily for me they don't mind them and I get to spend time with two amazingly wonderful people!
This last week we also celebrated my friends birthday. We surprised him at a wonderful restaurant called Sushi Totoro, and yes it is a Miyazaki Totoro themed restaurant. I was the first there so naturally I went to the wrong table and then people started to arrive. I got to have some really great conversations with some of their friends that I don't really know, so that was super cool. It doesn't hurt that they are all pretty handsome as well, hey I got eyes and I am going to use them. After lunch most headed their own way but I went back to their place and we got back to Pandemic Legacy and won the month of March this time. We also watched The History of the World Part 1, and played Red Flags which is an absolute hoot of a card game!
The next day I had some friends over in hopes of cheering up one of them. I had successfully set her up with one of my friends/now our current coworker. It however didn't go well on the first date since he is a chicken shit who wasn't even willing to give it a chance. He asked her out and then told her they couldn't date because he cared too much about his job. DON'T ASK SOMEONE OUT THEN! So, kind of pissed at him. He works with her maybe twice a month. Seriously, you think you can't not make things horrible if you guys don't work out? Grow up man. She however is pretending that everything is okay and taking it much better than I am, now. I am doing my best to not be so thoroughly disappointed in how he handled things. So, we had a few people over and played Cards Against Humanity. Nothing like being horrible to make you feel better!!
